Today I have had great fun playing with light. I was inspired by the works of Monet. In particular, Impression, Sunrise. This work was first shown in 1874 at an independent exhibition organised by a group of artists including Monet, Renoir, and Degas. The show served as an alternative to the traditional, state run Salon, allowing artists to work in radically new ways.
In a review of the exhibition, the critic Louis Leroy condemned Impression, Sunrise, arguing that is was nothing more than a sketch and in a negative context titled the show “The Exhibition of the Impressionists” a term that the group proudly adopted.

I wanted to create a work similarly focused on light, colour, and spontaneity but using the artificial light sources in our contemporary lives.
